Christ icons became the subject of the most dispute and, after the end of the image controversy at the turn of the 8th to the 9th century, the most important icon in the Orthodox Chruch.

Christ icons breaks new ground in that views and presents icons divided into different topic areas in a comprehensive framework for the first time.

From the time of the beginnings of icon painting through to the present day, Christ icons have never been presented in such self-contained and richly illustrated form.
